Whether it be recognising signs of dehydration, illness, or other vital signs, use of lifting equipment, personal grooming, supervising and dispensing of medications, Daniels are committed to ensuring our graduates have the necessary skills.
Duration: 12-24 months
Home and Community Care Workers provide direct care and support to some of the most disadvantaged members of our community, specifically the elderly and disabled. The standard of care and support you provide as a Home and Community Care Worker critically affects the quality of life, wellbeing and safety of your client.
The Certificate III in Home and Community Care provides you with the skills to carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care or other life activities. It is the perfect course if you would like to begin working in a personal care capacity, or already have experience working in a personal care role and would like to formalise your skills and knowledge.
What you will learn
During the course you’ll learn how to work effectively in a personal care role including:
- Participating and working successfully in a home and community care environment.
- Working effectively and safely with a range of clients requiring personal care.
- Communicating appropriately with clients and colleagues.
- Developing an appreciation of diversity, especially in relation to culture and ability.
What you will learn
After finishing your qualification, you have a sufficient level of skill and knowledge to perform the following roles in a community services environment:
- Carer
- Personal Care Worker or Assistant
- Community Care Worker
- Home Care Worker
- Disability Support Worker
- Respite Worker or Carer
- Community Support Worker
What you are really going to do
- Attend monthly workshops conducted in the workplace
- Participate in lots of work shop activities
- Conducts workplace audit and report on results
- Work in groups to complete small workplace projects
- Complete small homework assignments
How you will be assessed
- Workshop activities and workplace simulations
- Homework Assignments, mostly multiple choice
- Short answer assignments
- Participate in workplace interviews and demonstrations
- Workplace evidence of previous work you have performed
- Note: There are NO exams
Career Pathways
- All candidates who undertake Certificate (III) in Home and Community Care are provided with advice on employment and training options. Candidates who complete Certificate III and intend to further their knowledge are encouraged to enrol in the Certificate IV program.
National Recognition
- Daniels Associates recognises relevant qualifications issued by other RTOs. There is no fee for National Recognition. Where the qualification was gained more than 3 years ago we reserve the right to check that competence is current.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- RPL is an assessment process that enables an applicant to gain recognition of skills and knowledge regardless of how they were achieved. This may include formal or informal learning, work experience or general life experience. In order to grant RPL Daniels Associates trainer and assessor must be confident that the applicant is currently competent against the units of competence in the qualification. The evidence to demonstrate this may include certificate, references from past employers, testimonials from clients and work samples. Where RPL is granted you do not have to participate in further training and assessment for skills and knowledge that you already possess. There is a fee for RPL assessment.
